Veterans Services
Every effort is made at John Jay to help our students who are returning from military duty resume their studies as seamlessly as possible. There are a number of ways in which John Jay gives preference to returning students. These include readmission in a probationary or non-degree status to veterans with an unsatisfactory academic record; an extended registration period; up to 18 credits for United States Armed Forces Institute courses, and other military education and training; and free auditing of classes.
While John Jay is reorganizing its Veterans Affairs Office, the initial point of contact for a military-related interruption in attendance is Joalejandra Lugo, the Veterans Affairs Certifying Official. Her office is located in North Hall Room 3400, 212.237.8161, Fax 212.237.8936. Veterans may also seek help from the Student Services Office or the College’s ombudsman.

Grades
Students returning from active duty who have attended John Jay for 13 weeks or more, or have completed 85% of the term’ work through acceleration, may be given full credit for each course in which they have earned a “C” or higher. Those seeking incompletes must sign an incomplete contract with the instructor. Grades will be recorded as failures if courses are not completed.
Refunds
A 100% refund of tuition and fees, minus application fees, will be made to students called to active duty or drafted who have not met attendance requirements sufficient to earn a grade. For students who enlist in the military, withdrawal prior to the 5th week of classes (or the 3rd week for Summer Session/Winter Session) are entitled to a 100% refund of tuitions and fees, except for the College’s application fees. Those withdrawing after the 5th week are entitled to a 50% refund.
Late Admissions
Veterans with no previous college experience are permitted to file applications to the end of registration. They can also begin classes pending completion of their application and provision of supporting documents. Students returning to John Jay from military duty will not be charged a readmission fee to register here.
