Six (6) courses, each bearing three (3) undergraduate credits, are offered to employees of New York City Transit (NYCT). The courses are offered at the John Jay College campus of The City University of New York, near Columbus Circle. Objectives of the Program include educating NYCT employees so they can better meet the demands of their jobs and encouraging employees to take steps towards completing an Associate or Baccalaureate Degree, thereby to improve their chances for career advancement.

The six (6) courses offered on a rotating basis include:

• Computer Applications for Transportation Management (Public Administration/PAD 241)
• Operations Management in Transportation (PAD 320)
• Planning and Budget Development for Transit Management (PAD 343)
• Managing Organizational Behavior in Transportation (PAD 350)
• Metropolitan Transportation Systems (PAD 352)
• Labor Relations in Transportation (PAD 390)

New York City Transit employees who wish to enroll in one of the Certificate Program courses at John Jay College must first be nominated by New York City Transit. Faculty for the Program all have experience working in transit and/or transportation management. Current instructors include:

The Director of the Program is Jim Cohen, Ph.D., Professor of Public Management at John Jay College/The City University of New York. Professor Cohen has over 25 years experience in education and training, research and consultation on transit and transportation. His recent research and consulting work involves both American and European transit and transportation, with a focus on capital finance.
