Educational Benefit Descriptions

Chapter 30 Montgomery GI Bill Active Duty (MGIB-AD)
The MGIB-AD is for individuals who have served on active duty but are not eligible for the Post 9/11 GI Bill or are eligible but have opted out until a later date. For more detailed information on eligibility and restrictions please click here or you can download the pamphlet here.


Chapter 31 Vocational Rehabilitation & Employment Program (VR&E)
The VR&E is for individuals who have service-connected disabilities to prepare for, find, and keep suitable jobs. Eligibility is as follows: 1. Active duty service members expecting to separate from active duty with an honorable discharge and obtain a memorandum rating of 20% disability from the VA. 2. Veterans with a discharge of other than dishonorable and have a service-connected disability rating of at least 10% or a memorandum rating of 20% or more from the VA. Chapter 33 Post 9/11 GI Bill
Individuals are eligible for the Post 9/11 GI Bill if they have served at least 90 days in active service on or after September 10, 2001. For more detailed information on eligibility and restrictions please click here or you can download the pamphlet here.


Chapter 35 Dependents Education Assistance (DEA)
The DEA is for individuals who are the children or spouse of: a veteran who died or is permanently and totally disabled as the result of a service-connected disability, which must arise out of active service in the Armed Forces. Chapter 1606 Montgomery GI Bill Selected Reserve (MGIB-SR)
The MGIB-SR is for individuals who are serving in a drilling reserve unit under a six-year obligation in the Selected Reserve, in good standing, and have completed their initial active duty for training. Chapter 1607 Reserve Educational Assistance Program (REAP)
The REAP is for individuals who served on active duty on or after 9/11 in support of a contingency operation for 90 consecutive days or more, performed full-time National Guard duty responding to a national emergency declared by the President and supported by Federal funds, or called to active service from reserves.
