Who can attend New Student Convocation?
Convocation is open to all new undergraduate students. This includes incoming freshmen and transfer students new to the College as of Fall 2014.
How will ticketing work?
Since this event is event is geared towards new students, the majority of tickets will be allocated towards this specific population. New students will have an opportunity to request one ticket per student on a first come, first reserve basis. Upperclassmen will be allocated balcony seating tickets and will have an opportunity to request one ticket per student on a first come, first reserve basis. The reservation process will take place online on a given date and time.
What if I do not get a ticket for the event?
New Student Convocation will be live-streamed throughout campus and via the web for anyone to watch. There will be specific locations throughout campus where you can grab some friends and/or colleagues and watch the event together or you can watch from the comfort of your own home. On the day of the event, simply visit John Jay's homepage and a link will be provided.
Why should I go to Convocation?
This experience is very important as students begin their college careers. All new students are strongly encouraged to attend. The ceremony is an important step for students to recognize their entrance into the college community. It also serves as a "bookend" to each student's collegiate experience, with convocation as the opening ceremony and commencement as the final goal.
Should transfer students attend New Student Convocation?
Absolutely! New Student Convocation is designed for ALL new undergraduate students - including freshmen and transfer students.
Is there a cost to attend the event?
No, this is a free event.
