The Office for the Advancement of Research (OAR) encourages, shepherds and supports scholarly activity at the College. Headed by Dr. Anthony Carpi, Associate Provost and Dean of Research (Interim), OAR works with faculty on many aspects of research, grant seeking and scholarship.
OAR includes the Office of Sponsored Programs, Institutional Review Board, and the Research Consortium of John Jay College. The Office of Sponsored programs assists faculty and staff in securing external public and private funding for research, training, curriculum and program development, and they can provide faculty with a wide array of resources on grant-seeking. The Institutional Review Board is available to assist researchers with all aspects of procuring IRB approval for projects. Recent faculty grants are highlighted here.
Each semester OAR holds several workshops to support faculty scholarship. Examples of past workshop topics have included publishing in the social sciences, publishing in the humanities, and writing grants for NIH SCORE funding. In addition, OAR sponsors and facilitates scholarly events as well as organizing and underwriting academic lectures.
OAR rewards and supports faculty research and scholarship through several awards given out annually: the Faculty Scholarly Excellence Reward Program, The Collaborative Research Award Program, the Faculty Mid-Career Research Support Program, and the Donal EJ MacNamara Junior Faculty Award.
All faculty are encouraged to stop by the OAR's offices, located in Haaren Hall Room 632, or email us with any questions regarding how we can be of assistance.
