To celebrate the new Community Hour, the MSRC will offer workshops in topics from 100-level math and chemistry courses during the community hour on Mondays, Tuesdays, and Wednesdays. FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS ABOUT MSRC WORKSHOPS:
Do I have to be enrolled in a course to attend a workshop?
No. Unlike tutoring appointments, which are available only to students enrolled in covered courses, workshops are open to anyone. For example, if you are taking MAT108 and you need a review of some MAT104 topics, you are welcome to attend a MAT104 workshop. If you are preparing for the MCAT and you want to attend a general chemistry workshop to help you review basic chemistry topics, you are welcome. If you're finished with all your math requirements but you really just love Venn Diagrams or the quadratic equation, you are welcome.
How do I sign up for a workshop?
You can reserve a seat in a workshop the same way you schedule a tutoring appointment: Log on to TutorTrac and search for open workshops, or stop by the MSRC and speak to someone at our reception desk. You will need to consult the workshop schedule so you know specifically what math or chemistry topics are being covered on what days.
Do I have to reserve a seat in advance?
No. It's recommended, but not required. Even if you did not reserve a seat in advance, you are welcome to attend on a walk-in basis if we have room. Workshops are limited to no more than 20 students per session.
What if I sign up in advance and I don't show up?
The penalty for missing a workshop is the same as for missing a tutoring appointment: If you miss a combined total of four without canceling in advance, you will be barred from scheduling either in advance for the rest of the current semester. Please don't reserve a seat if you aren't sure you can attend.
Who are the workshop leaders?
Workshops are led by MSRC tutors. The workshop schedule will list the name of the tutor leading each workshop once a tutor has been assigned. If there's a tutor you really like, look for her or his name on the workshop schedule!
