About Us
GETTING SKILL CERTIFIED
Prepare to do your best on the CUNY Assessment Tests (CAT) as they can affect your
admission to John Jay.
Take the CUNY Assessment Tests specified in the Testing Appointment letter sent to you
by CUNY. You can only start classes at John Jay after you have demonstrated proficiency
in Reading, Writing, and Mathematics by passing the CUNY Assessment Tests.
▪ If you pass the tests and meet the skills requirements, you will receive an acceptance
letter and information about how to register for classes.
▪ If you fail two or more tests, you will not be eligible for a retest preparation program at John
Jay. We will notify you of other options, like starting your studies at a community college.
▪ If you fail only one test, you will not yet qualify for admission to John Jay College.
However you may be eligible to participate in our tuition-free retest preparation program
(Spring Academy or Summer Academy) that will help you achieve skill proficiency.
Sign up for Spring Academy or Summer Academy. If you are eligible* for this
retest preparation program, you will receive a letter detailing the next steps.
*Only students who test before June 11, 2013 and fail one test will be considered
for the retest preparation program.

York, NY 10019. Cash payments for Student Seat Deposits can be made in person. For

Summer Academy retest preparation program, please use this
