About Us

In Peer Mentors' Words

What I love most about being a peer mentor is having the ability to interact with students who appreciate the assistance I can provide for them. It is exciting to see how happy students are when they leave my presence with a smile on their face.
-Alexis Hiralall

What I love about being a peer mentor is being able to provide first-year students with the information they need to make their first year at John Jay as easy and enjoyable as possible, as well as being a friend to them.
-Alketa Korra

To me, a peer mentor is someone who sees more talent and ability within you than you see in yourself and helps bring it out of you.
-Davinder Singh

Being a Peer Mentor means to me that I am constantly learning and spreading my knowledge to others. I educate myself as a college student by being involved in my classrooms, my campus, and college activities. I enjoy sharing my education and experiences as a John Jay student to my mentees.
-Katherine Castaneda

To me, being a peer mentor means being a role model for other students. It means having the opportunity to develop as a student leader while helping others reach their highest potential too.
-Syeda Fatima

Being a peer mentor means providing every first year student with the opportunities and support needed to ensure that he or she has a fruitful and fun college experience. Being a mentor means being a resource for first-year students while also being a friend.
-MaryBeth Apriceno

The best thing about being a peer mentor is helping someone whose shoes you have been in before.
-Mehak Kapoor

What I love about being a peer mentor is that I am able to be a resource for my students, as well as build connections with them and assist them in the long run. The gratitude from them is amazing, and it felt good to see how much I've helped and how grateful they are; it inspires me to work even harder.
-Michelle Tsang

What I love most about being a peer mentor is the feeling you get after someone tells you that you helped them in some way.
-Patrick Grimes

The best thing about being a peer mentor is having the opportunity to guide students on the path of success.
-Ricardo Sanchez

What I love most about being a peer mentor is sharing my experiences with others and letting them know about resources or activities that could make them love John Jay College.
-Shirley Manzano

Being a peer mentor is being a friend that's always there to lead you with responsibility and spirit.
-Zeeshan Ali

If you are like most first-year students, you will have plenty of questions about college life, campus resources, and what it takes to be a student at John Jay. The FYE Peer Mentors will have answers to all these questions and more.

As a student in an FYE Learning Community or First-Year Seminar, you and your classmates will be connected with an FYE Peer Mentor who is dedicated to making your transition to college successful and fun.
