Thanks for stopping by! My name is Danielle Carriero and I currently advise associate degree students. I realized my love for the college environment while in college myself! I was a very involved undergraduate student and took a liking to the diversity of activity that academia offers. Whether it be a class, club meeting or workshop, there is always something interesting going on! I am a mental health counselor who holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology from St. Francis College and a Master of Education and Master of Arts in Psychological Counseling from Teachers College at Columbia University.
Previous to coming to John Jay, I spent four years at Kingsborough Community College. I was first a counseling intern in the Women's Center. I greatly enjoyed focusing on feminism and women's issues and they remain interests of mine. I then helped spearhead the SERVE (Services to Enhance Reservists & Veterans Education) office offering a one-stop support program for all veteran and reservist students. It was incredibly rewarding to give back to this population, including World War II servicemen through current servicemen and women, as they pursued a new chapter in their lives.
It is always fulfilling as an advisor to be able to make students' days a bit easier. Completing college is far from a simple process, and I enjoy using both my counseling and academic backgrounds to let students know that together, we can do our best to get them to graduation day!
