I started off at John Jay in 2006, as just another freshman student. I came in thinking that I would learn about the criminal justice system and then go off to Law School. So I started my journey with government as my major and I quickly got involved with programs such as, the Pre-Law Institute, First Year Experience, and Interdisciplinary Studies. I also became active in student clubs that are under the oversight of the Student Life Office. With so many academic and extra-curricular activities on my plate, I found myself in need of help for managing my time and priorities. At that time, the Freshman Peer Mentoring program assigned me to a Peer Mentor who helped in guiding me every step of the way.

After having such a good experience with my Peer Mentor, I found out when the Freshman Peer Mentoring program was hiring and I applied to become a Peer Mentor.  Through my role as a Peer Mentor, I realized that I enjoyed helping students. Therefore, I changed my major to Forensic Psychology in my sophomore year and then later enrolled in the BA/MA program for Forensic Psychology, obtaining both my Baccalaureate and Master’s Degrees in five years.

I continued to work as a Peer Advisor at John Jay until I graduated. After a brief hiatus, I rejoined the Academic Advisement Center in the capacity of an Academic Advisor. I truly loved being a part of the office and getting to meet and help our students.  I could not be happier about the opportunity to assist our students with their own adventures at John Jay. I know that I had a great time at the college as a student and I want every student to do the same.  While my previous goal of going to Law School did not materialize, through my journey at John Jay, I found a different field of interest that was a better fit.

Together we can make this happen for you, too!
