How to Apply
The Honors Program application reflects a student’s academic record and preparation for the program’s intellectual experience. Admission depends on GPA, SAT I/ACT scores, an interview, and other supporting documentation. Students who meet the requirements below will be invited to apply to the program.
Completed applications must be postmarked by the deadline to be considered. The Honors Program cannot consider late or incomplete applications.
REQUIREMENTS
Entering Freshmen
- For fall 2013 the minimum High School Average is 89.5
- For fall 2013 the minimum ACT Composite Score or SAT score is 1100 combined Math and Verbal score
- Finalists will be interviewed by a representative of the Honors faculty.

Continuing Students
- Cumulative GPA: 3.3 or higher
- Sophomores must have accumulated 30-45 credits; Juniors must have accumulated 60-75 credits
- Writing sample: approximately 500 words (previously graded work)
- Two letters of recommendation: at least one must be from a John Jay faculty member. (Transfer students need at least one letter from a faculty member at their previous institution.)
- Finalists will be interviewed by a representative of the Honors faculty.
