Welcome to the Math & Science Resource Center at John Jay! Please take some time to explore the links on the menu to your right—it’s a great way to get to know the MSRC and the services we provide.
You have the ability to succeed in college. One thing you can do to ensure your success is to familiarize yourself with the campus resources available to you and use them when you need them. When it comes to academics, your first and best resource is always your instructor. However, if you need additional support, the MSRC is here to help you tackle tough subjects and develop your skills as an active, independent learner.
The cornerstone of the MSRC is its tutoring program. We offer small-group, appointment-based tutoring free of charge to current John Jay students. You must be enrolled in a course we cover in order to receive tutoring. For a list of courses covered by tutoring and information on how to take advantage of the tutoring program, please click the “Services for Students” link to your right.
The MSRC tutoring program serves more than 1,250 students annually in more than 4,500 tutoring sessions. Survey data show that our students understand course material better and earn higher grades because they come for tutoring. The students who get the most out of tutoring are the ones who start early in the semester and schedule appointments frequently.
If you have done well academically and you would like to help others do the same, I hope you will consider applying to become a peer tutor. Click on the “Become a Tutor” link to your right for a job description and application instructions.
In addition to tutoring, we also have a resource library, computer lab, and space for you to study on your own or with a group. Please click the “Center Policies All Students Must Know” link to your right to familiarize yourself with the center’s policies.
The members of the MSRC staff are dedicated to helping you succeed, and we do our best to provide quality services in a welcoming atmosphere. However, should you have questions, concerns, or suggestions for how we can improve our service to students, I encourage you to contact me directly using the contact information to your left. You may also submit your comments anonymously by placing them in the suggestion box located outside the main entrance to the center.
Please accept my best wishes for success at John Jay.
Sincerely,
Michele Doney
