The NYPD Leadership Program at John Jay College of Criminal Justice provides New York City police officers and supervisors with skills that enhance public safety service delivery and police management in a multiracial and multicultural city. The NYPD Leadership Program is a tuition exempt Friday academic program for active NYPD Uniformed Members of the Service (UMOS).  The program is designed for undergraduate and non-degree graduate students.

OVERVIEW

The New York City Council with the Mayor's support authorized John Jay College of Criminal Justice to partner with the NYPD to provide eligible NYPD Uniformed Members of the Service with a package of 4 credit bearing college courses (12 credits total).  The benefits of the NYPD Leadership Program include:

1. Receive a full scholarship that covers tuition, technology and textbook fees for 4 college courses (undergraduate or graduate)

2. Receive a Certificate of Completion

3. Apply the 12 credits towards a Bachelor's or Master's degree program at John Jay College (click here to learn more about the applicability of courses to degree program)

4. Receive academic advisement and support

5. Receive personal and career development counseling

6. Access to a full service educational environment and campus facilities (i.e. fitness center, Lloyd Sealy Library, state-of-the art computer labs, writing lab, tutoring, swimming pool, etc.)

ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS

All active NYPD UMOS are eligible for the NYPD Leadership Program.

NOTE:  If you are a retired NYPD Uniformed Member of the Service, you are encouraged to apply to John Jay College by following the instructions at the In-service Application Process page.  If you are an NYPD Non-Uniformed Member of the Service (i.e. school safety agent, traffic enforcement agent, police administrative aide, etc.), or from a law enforcement agency other than NYPD, please refer to the Undergraduate Admissions Prospective Students page and click on the application process that applies to you.

PROGRAM DESIGN

The NYPD Leadership Program courses meet once a week on Fridays at John Jay College.  Courses are offered during morning, afternoon and evening periods in the fall and spring semester.  Please refer to the NYPD Leadership Course Outline for detailed course information.
