Kewulay Kamara received a BA in Political Science and Literature at the State University of New York (Oneonta). He earned an MA in Economics at the New School for Social Research, and is now writing his dissertation in Economic Development and Planning. Besides teaching at many college campuses, he formerly served as a Data Specialist for the US Census Bureau and as Staff Analyst for the New York City Administration for Children’s Services. He is poet/story teller from Sierra Leone who descends from a long line of oral historians and poets. Kamara is regularly featured at the New York City-based People's Poetry Gathering. He has performed at the Great Hall (Cooper Union), The Kitchen, Alice Tully Hall, and New York City Center and at the United Nations. The New York Times, New York Daily News, CNN and NPR, and A&E 's Breakfast with Arts have featured him. He narrated Legends of the Bushmen (TBS). His writings have appeared in the Black Scholar and Teacher and Writers, Food First, and Routes. The New York Stock Exchange and U.S. Bureau of the Census web sites, Holistic Primary Care, and in Top Down, Bottom Up (table book) have used his photographs. His recent creations include epics: Songolon Jata, and: Finah Misa Kule: Voices of the Kings. Professor Kamara is a recipient of the AEV Foundation and National Geographic awards.
