2018 Alumni Reunion Award Recipients

Muhammad u. Faridi,Alumnus Muhammad U. Faridi is a Partner in the Litigation Department of Patterson Belknap Webb & Tyler. Faridi's practice at the law firm focuses on complex commercial litigation, and he has handled a wide variety of litigation matters at various stages for large financial institutions. He was the recipient of the New York State Bar Association's 2014 Outstanding Young Lawyer Award for having rendered outstanding service to both the community and the legal profession. He graduated with a B.A. summa cum laude from John Jay in 2004 and graduated from CUNY School of Law in 2007. Faridi joined the Board of Trustees of the John Jay College Foundation in spring 2017. Faridi will be honored as the Young Alumnus Award Winner at Alumni Reunion 2018.

Jeffrey Mark DeskovicAlumnus Jeffrey Deskovic (MA'13) is a wrongful conviction expert and founder of The Jeffrey Deskovic Foundation for Justice which has exonerated 2 people; helped free 5 more through other legal means; and helped pass legislation. Certified as an instructor in NJ Police Academies, Jeff instructed 7 soon to be graduating classes of police officers in ethics and best practices and twice co-taught a wrongful conviction course at Rockland Community College. Jeff dedicated his life to fighting wrongful conviction after spending 16 years in prison prior to exoneration through DNA Testing that identified the actual perpetrator. Jeff is currently at Elisabeth Haub School of Law at Pace to become an attorney to help exonerate others. Deskovic will be honored as the Distinguished Alumnus Award Winner at Alumni Reunion 2018.

Teresa BookerDr. Teresa A. Booker is Associate Professor, Department of Africana Studies and Deputy Executive Officer, Policy Oversight & Administration Track. She teaches courses in Africana Studies, ethnic studies and restorative justice, and has published in the peer-reviewed journals The National Journal of Urban Education and Practice, The International Journal of Restorative Justice, The Journal of Pan African Studies, and The International Journal of Regional and Local Studies. She is the current Deputy Executive Office of the Ph.D. Program in Criminal Justice's Policy Oversight and Administration track (Graduate Center). Dr. Booker will be honored as the Distinguished Faculty Award Recipient at Alumni Reunion 2018.
