CUNYCAP affords recent CUNY graduates, who have earned a baccalaureate degree, the opportunity to gain valuable work experience in various student service-oriented positions throughout CUNY. Students must be enrolled in a master's degree-granting program which may be a CUNY or non-CUNY school.
ELIGIBILITY:
* A bachelor's degree earned with a record of academic achievement from any CUNY college.
* Enrollment as a matriculated student in a graduate program.
* The availability of a minimum of 15 through a maximum of 20 hours per week during the Fall and Spring semesters, primarily during daytime hours.
* Two letters of recommendation, ideally one from a faculty member and the other from a supervisor.
* A professional resume outlining work/relevant experience.
THE APPLICATION PROCESS:
All interested eligible students are required to complete the CUNYCAP application and mail it to CUNY Central Office.
THE PLACEMENT PROCESS:
After an initial screening, CUNY Central Office sends the applications to the CUNYCAP
Coordinators on all CUNY campuses where there are available CUNYCAP positions. Applicants are next contacted by the different schools for an interview; sometimes, applicants are interviewed more than once depending on the needs of the particular school. The interviewing school then makes an offer to the applicant. If the applicant accepts the offer, then the CUNYCAP Supervisor and the CUNYCAPPER decide on a work schedule. After this, the CUNYCAP Coordinator informs CUNY Central Office that the applicant has been placed. If the applicant refuses the offer, he/she continues the interviewing process; however, placement is not guaranteed.
PLEASE NOTE - CUNYCAP positions are highly competitive and involve a very selective interviewing process. Thus, students should conduct themselves accordingly when going on interviews. Students should be professionally dressed for the interview with their resume and should employ good interviewing skills in order to secure the CUNYCAP position. In seeking a successful CUNYCAP applicant, supervisors look for the same successful job search skills of any other business or agency hiring personnel.
BENEFITS:
CUNYCAP offers CUNY students the chance to work in positions in which they have an interest. It affords students the opportunity to gain hands-on experience in a professional setting. Furthermore, students enrolled in a CUNY graduate program receive a tuition reimbursement of up to six (6) graduate credits per semester at the New York resident rate for a total of three (3) years. |
