The Security Management Institute (SMI) has developed a course which is designed for individuals already in and those seeking a career in Security Management. The program is structured around the testing areas outlined by the American Society for Industrial Security (ASIS) Certified Protection Professional (CPP) Professional Certification Board. The course covers the ten (10) mandatory CPP Examination areas:

  • Physical Security
  • Investigations
  • Protection of Sensitive Information
  • Legal Aspects of Security
  • Security Management
  • Personnel Security
  • Substance Abuse
  • Loss Prevention
  • Liaison


Presentations are also offered on:

  • Bomb Threats
  • Terrorism
  • Labor Relations
  • Security Technology (which includes access to our Security Technology Laboratory)

  • Lecturers are Certified Protection Professionals, Attorneys and Subject Matter Experts
  • Handout materials and presentations provide an overview of Security Management principles and responsibilities
  • Assists in preparation for the CPP Examination
  • Participants have access to the John Jay College Library for reading and research material
  • Certificates are awarded upon successful completion of the course
  • Three (3) semester hours of undergraduate academic credit may be granted to eligible participants
