The Security Management Institute (SMI) has developed a course which is designed for individuals already in and those seeking a career in Security Management. The program is structured around the testing areas outlined by the American Society for Industrial Security (ASIS) Certified Protection Professional (CPP) Professional Certification Board. The course covers the ten (10) mandatory CPP Examination areas:

- Emergency Planning
- Physical Security
- Investigations
- Protection of Sensitive Information
- Legal Aspects of Security
- Security Management
- Personnel Security
- Substance Abuse
- Loss Prevention
- Liaison

Presentations are also offered on:

- Bomb Threats
- Terrorism
- Labor Relations
- Security Technology (which includes access to
  our Security Technology Laboratory)


WHO SHOULD ATTEND

         - Security managers
          - Criminal Justice system practitioners
          - Fire Service practitioners
          - Management level personnel from public and private organizations
          - Personnel seeking a transition to Security Management
          - Students seeking careers in Security Management


PROGRAM

- Lecturers are Certified Protection Professionals, Attorneys and Subject Matter Experts
- Handout materials and presentations provide an overview of Security Management principles and responsibilities
- Assists in preparation for the CPP Examination
- Participants have access to the John Jay College Library for reading and research material
- Certificates are awarded upon successful completion of the course
- Three (3) semester hours of undergraduate academic credit may be granted to eligible participants

- Prepare for advancement in the security field
- Prepare for transition to a Security Management career
- Prepare managers to cope more effectively with security problems
- Prepare for the CPP Examination

THE SECURITY MANAGEMENT INSTITUTE

The Institute is non-profit and has as its objective the continuing professionalization of security management. The institute is designed to encourage and provide professional education and research in this rapidly growing field and to assist business, industry and institutions to meet the challenge of Asset Protection through specially designed seminars, conferences and courses. Grants and donations to the John Jay Foundation are encouraged to further research and development in this growing and dynamic profession. Activities of the S.M.I. are coordinated by the Criminal Justice Center at John Jay College: Robert J. Louden, Director, Herbert A. Johnson, Associate Director, Robert Hair, CPP, Course Director, and Linda Gordon, Operations Coordinator.
