Designed for individuals seeking careers in or a transition to Security Management. Structured around the mandatory testing areas outlined by the American Society for Industrial Security (ASIS) Certified Protection Professional (CPP) Professional Certification Board. Also offers presentations on Bomb Threats, Terrorism, Labor Relations and Security Technology (utilizes Security Technology Lab).
The trainers are industry professionals, CPP's, attorneys and academic specialists. Appropriate materials are provided for each session. Participants have access to the John Jay College Library and the Security Technology Laboratory.

VIP Protection Training (40 hours)

Designed for individuals tasked with the responsibility of providing physical security for at risk persons and their families (professional athletes, entertainment celebrities, corporate executives, and political personalities). Objective is to enhance awareness and development of protective skills; create an understanding of tactical and psychological elements under various situations. Covers training practices used by the New York City Police Department, the United States Secret Service and the United States Department of State's Diplomatic Security Service.
The trainers are former federal and local law enforcement professionals with vast experience in their areas of expertise. Appropriate materials are provided for each session. Participants have access to the John Jay College Library and the Security Technology Laboratory. This is a hands-on program.

International Terrorism and Crime (8 hours)

Offered periodically.
This program is designed to provide a current picture of international terrorist tactics and crime. Suggested actions that can be taken to reduce risk and enhance safety will be presented. The program consists of a review of international crime problems, a review of terrorist targets and tactics, a review of the year's terrorist incidents, an overview of terrorist incident avoidance and surviving the hostage and kidnap event. The program includes business, travel and residential security issues.
The presenters are industry professionals with broad experience in their areas of expertise. Appropriate materials are provided for each session. Participants have access to the John Jay College Library and the Security Technology Laboratory.
Off site and country specific or area presentations can be provided.

Security Systems Design &
Application (40 hours)

This program is designed for Security Professionals who need to understand the role of technology in meeting the challenges presented since the events of September 11, 2001, individuals seeking careers in facility management, and security practitioners who need to keep abreast of new technological developments.
Attendees will study how the security system fits into overall building design and construction teams, learn what access control systems can and cannot do for your security program, and be able to judge if the often-ignored industrial espionage threat could negatively affect your facility. This program will demonstrate that before solutions to security vulnerabilities can be designed, it is imperative to analyze what needs to be protected, and why.

The first two one-day sessions will be workshops covering the process of evaluating security needs and navigating through the design phases leading to complete construction documents. These two presentations will include the effect of codes on design, cost estimating, selling the budget to management, managing project changes and implementation.

The third 1-day session will demonstrate the use of computer technology in security equipment and will stress the use of the internet for sources of technical information. Time will be devoted to examining a large array of security systems, including intrusion detection, access control devices, CCTV, fiber optics, digital recording, motion detection and data transmission systems in John Jay's Security Technology Laboratory. |

Certified New York State Security Guard Training
|
We offer the Eight (8) - Hour Security Guard Pre-certification; Sixteen (16) - Hour On - the - Job (OJT) Training; and, Eight (8) - Hour Annual In-service Training as required the New York State Security Guard Act.
The 8 hour Pre-certification course consist of an introduction to Security Guard responsibilities; role of the Security Guard; legal powers and limitations; emergency situations; communications and public relations; access control; and ethics and conduct.
The 16 hour in-service course consists of the above subjects plus report writing. In addition, the Center's staff will work with your security managers to insure the 16 hour program reflects your organizations requirements and concerns. This course should be completed within 90 days of employment.
The mandated 8 hour annual in-service training course for Security Guards is an in-depth review of the above subjects. Again steps will be taken to include material germane to your operation.
The instructors in this course are all certified by the Division of Criminal Justice Services of the State of New York.

Peace Officer Training without Firearms

The center offers the 35 hour Peace Officer certification course on an as needed basis. In accord with New York State law the Center must file a notice with the Division of Criminal Justice at least 45 days in advance of the start of the program.
Mandatory subjects include Ethics and the Law Enforcement Profession, Constitutional Law, Penal Law, Criminal Procedural Law, The Court Environment, Civil Law, Investigations by Peace Officers, Arrest and Custody Procedures, Report Writing, and Conflict Resolution.

Combating Workplace Violence

This seminar is a comprehensive presentation of 'Combating Workplace Violence-Guidelines for Employers and Law Enforcement.' These guidelines are the result of a commitment by the International Association of Chiefs of Police with the research and financial support of the Defense Personnel Security Research Center and Bureau of Justice Assistance.

Proposed legislation that would require employers (50 plus employees) to develop and implement programs to prevent WORKPLACE VIOLENCE
Wording of the Bill: 'Workplace violence presents a serious occupational safety hazard for workers, but many EMPLOYERS and workers may be unaware of the risk. Moreover, the hazard of workplace violence is NOT currently addressed by any specific federal or state regulation.'
Proposed amendment would create new section 200-A of the Labor Law.
It would require said employers to develop and implement a WRITTEN WORKPLACE VIOLENCE PREVENTION PROGRAM including a reporting system of incidents of aggressive behavior.
This SEMINAR will make employers AWARE of and PROMOTE a program pursuant to the guidelines of the International Association of Chiefs of Police for dealing with workplace violence. These guidelines dovetail with the proposed legislation. Successful application of these guidelines may well serve to attenuate civil liability in future incidents of workplace violence.

School Safety Management and Technical Assistance

This program provides information, staff development and technical assistance for school administrators, teachers, students, parents, law enforcement, safety professionals and community leaders who are concerned about creating and maintaining safe and secure schools and campuses.
School Safety Conference -- Our school safety conference exposes participants to an array of violence prevention planning and management strategies. Emphasis is placed on a collaborative model that encourages stakeholders to play active roles in an effort to create a safe learning environment.
Research and Evaluation -- Conduct formative evaluations to analyze and help develop effective school safety policies, strategies, and procedures.
Practitioner Development -- Provide staff development and technical assistance in the areas of school based security to school administrative personnel, law enforcement supervisors, students, parents and civic leaders. Training focuses on violence and crime prevention, security management, community policing in schools, and collaborative problem solving.
