Frequently Asked Questions

Welcome to the Counseling Department Home Page!

The Counseling Department offers a complete range of counseling and referral services concerning academic and personal problems. Counseling services provide opportunities for the personal, social, and intellectual growth of students. All students are urged to acquaint themselves with the counseling services early in their college careers.

There are many reasons why students come to counseling. The most common reasons include: academic advisement, adjustment to college, career exploration, choosing a major, study habits, test anxiety, low self-esteem, family and relationship concerns, depression, anxiety, and general problems associated with inability to do well in college. In individual counseling, group counseling, and the classroom, counselors help students develop a deeper understanding of themselves and their relationship to others.

Counseling services are provided by trained professionals who are part of the College faculty. Students may also choose to see a Peer Advisor (a fellow student) or a graduate intern. They are under the supervision of the counseling faculty.

Counseling services are free and available to every student on a walk-in or appointment basis. Counselors are available on Monday and Thursday from 9am to 5pm, Tuesday and Wednesday from 9am to 7pm. All contacts with the counseling service are kept in the strictest confidence. Matters discussed with the counselors are in no way permitted to prejudice a student's standing at the College.
