Job Description Summary:
Minimum Qualifications:

NICET Certified Level 3 or 4 (National Institute for Certification of Engineering Technologies) is necessary plus four years of practical experience with fire/life safety systems to include fire sprinkler and suppression systems is necessary.

Job Duties

 

Function:

Investigates and identifies fire alarm and fire sprinkler system problems and develops plans to affect such repairs.

Function:

Evaluates facilities/equipment to identify unsafe conditions and develops preventative and/or improvement maintenance schedules for all fire systems and their components.

Function:

Inspects fire systems to ensure compliance with federal, state, and local regulatory agencies; designs and plans fire system alterations.

Function:

Reviews plans and specifications related to fire/life safety for renovations and new construction.

Function:

Acts as liaison with Fire Marshal, and any state, federal or private insurance investigators inspecting University facilities related to fire/life safety; acts as University Inspector on major fire/life safety construction projects.

Function:

Works with Risk Management and housing operation leads to inspect, identify and facilitate correction of regulatory violations.

Function:

Performs construction management duties for all construction projects relating to fire/life safety; may prepare sketches and drawings for minor construction projects utilizing computer assisted software.

Function:

Prepares correspondence and informal contracts to agencies and vendors for material and labor agreements; coordinates all hands-on repairs related to alarm and sprinkler systems and researches and recommends safety equipment.

Function:

May document safety inspections, drawing attention to dangerous areas/procedures and recommending corrective actions.

Function:

Maintains knowledge of federal, state, and local safety regulations, protocols, codes, and procedures pertaining to fire/life safety.

Function:

May serve and/or represent supervisor at various meetings that may impact the unit.

Function:

Enhances professional knowledge and skills by attending job-related seminars, workshops, conferences, and/or reviewing published literature.

Function:

Develops a close working relationship with the Office of Risk Management and other University offices.

Function:

Manages/performs special project assignments as requested and performs other work-related duties as requested.

    Responsibilities















    Under the direction of the Manager, Emergency Readiness, the selected candidate will have the responsibility for evaluating civilian emergency management and security training needs, preparing an annual training calendar, developing training objectives, coordinating preparation of lesson plans, and brokering trainers and training resources to execute that plan. The selected candidate will work closely with the Sr. Manager of Emergency Readiness and be responsible for an interdepartmental and multi-agency exercise of project management involving design and development, conduct, evaluation and improvement planning. The selected candidate will manage an Agency-wide emergency preparedness training program consistent with the National Incident Management System and manage a certification and credentialing program for OEM staff consistent with federal and state requirements.

    Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university or at least 5 years experience in emergency management or a relevant field.

    • Specialized training in planning, exercise design and emergency operations.
    • Demonstrated experience in managing technical and administrative staff in a high-pressure, time-sensitive environment to include staff mentoring and development.

    • Excellent interpersonal skills including interacting with and providing guidance to senior-level management.
