hatever your situation, the SEEK Academic Support Center is here to provide you with professional and peer tutors who will work with you to ensure that you are successful in your courses. Do not wait until you feel like you are failing. Do not wait until a day before your exams. Come to tutoring and come often! Click to review the Policies of the SEEK Academic Support Center. Complete an Application for Tutoring and submit at the front desk to begin working with a tutor.

We offer a friendly, non–judgmental atmosphere at the Center. Our assistants will be happy to schedule your appointments and our tutors are ready to assist

Individual Tutoring:
Our best tutors will work with you as often as you need to coach and guide you through areas of difficulty and to help you to become an independent learner. Students have three options for scheduling appointments: Students should note that no appointments are made during the Community Hour

  • At the front desk (Room 3310 North Hall)

  • By phone  (212) 237-8883

  • Online by using your John Jay College credentials e.g. Username:  john.smith, Password: ***** . Students who schedule appointments online can also see their upcoming appointments and visit history. We encourage all students to take advantage of this convenient and simple option for scheduling. Click here to begin.

Please note that if you cannot keep your appointment you must call the office to cancel.

Small Group Tutoring:
Some students study better in group settings. If you have a group of classmates who need to cover the same material, come to the Center and make an appointment for small group tutoring. You may select your tutor or work with an SI or dedicated class tutor. All members of the group must schedule at the front desk to join the group session.

Supplemental Instruction:
To assist SEEK students in their difficult courses, a Supplementary Instructor is assigned to the class. The SI engages students in understanding material that is covered in class. Get to know your SI and do not hesitate to ask for help.

We offer workshops to get you prepared for upcoming exams. Workshop listings will be posted on the SEEK Facebook Page, Center notice boards and Campus screens. Look out for upcoming workshops and take advantage of this opportunity to review your coursework for exams.

24 Hour Tutoring
The 24 Hour tutoring Program is an intensive tutoring program geared toward non-skills certified students. Students who have previously taken classes, but not passed Basic Skills in either Math, Reading or Writing have the chance to retake the exam after receiving 24 hours of tutoring. Not every student is eligible for 24 hour tutoring. Please enquire at the front desk.

Did you know that we have an up to date library of texts, iPads, student workbooks, exam review books, and software available at the Center? We also have calculators that students may check out using their student IDs. Just ask at the front desk. SEEK students have access to a dedicated computer lab, as well as a number of laptops on loan by request.
