Bio

Denise Belén Santiago received her masters from New York University’s Center for Latin American and Caribbean Studies and her doctorate in interdisciplinary studies from St. John’s University.

Prior to entering academia, Prof. Santiago was a social worker, advocating for survivors of domestic and sexual violence.  For the past ten years, she has served as the director for the Office of Multicultural Affairs at Pace University in New York City.  Prof. Santiago is currently working on a documentary on men of color who worked as merchant marines during the 1930’s-1970’s.  The film examines the intersections of race, class, and trade union activism.
