Bio
Ibrahim Bechrouri is a Ph.D. candidate at the French Institute of Geopolitics. As a Fulbright grantee and visiting scholar at Columbia University, Ibrahim led field research on the New York Police Department’s (NYPD) counterterrorism policies, their effects on communities and the ways said communities have resisted policies perceived as unfair. Currently, Ibrahim completing his PhD dissertation, entitled "Geopolitical approach of Counter-terrorism strategies of the New York Police Department: a multi-scalar analysis".
Ibrahim is regularly invited to share his expertise on the effects of counterterrorism policies by such organizations as the Open Society Foundation (OSF), the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE), the European Institute of the Mediterranean and the European (IEMed) and Network Against Racism (ENAR). He has also shared his work at a number of universities including University of California Berkeley, Columbia University, Université du Québec à Montréal and Sciences Po Paris. In 2019, he received the Surveillance Studies Network Early Career Researcher Awards for his article "The Informant, Islam, and Muslims in New York City" published in 2018 in Surveillance and Society.
His research interests include Terrorism Studies, Surveillance Studies, Colonialism and Postcolonial Studies, Critical Race Theory, and Geopolitics.
