Message From the Provost
Welcome to John Jay. I’m excited that you’ll be joining us in our mission of “Educating for Justice.” You have joined a community of educators and scholars dedicated to exploring justice in multiple dimensions.
On this New Faculty Orientation website, you will be able to find information about the resources John Jay College provides for its faculty. Faculty should also be resources for each other; conversations with your department chairs and colleagues, their advice about our students and curriculum, and an introduction to committees and service opportunities will likely shape your first semester in our community.
As we face the ongoing challenges of Covid-19 and the persistent struggle for racial equity, I am proud of the resilience of our faculty, staff, and students. I am pleased to know that you will join them in the ranks of leaders and scholars who inform policy here at John Jay College, in New York City, and in our nation. You will be educating future advocates for justice. Starting on day one, you will serve as a teacher, mentor and scholarly role-model; you can make the world a better place for the students we seek to educate. With confidence, I say they will be very excited to meet you. Stay/Be safe.
Provost Yi Li

Introduction:
The Department of Online Education and Support at John Jay College builds the college’s capacity in distance and online education, develops and sustains the online degree programs through John Jay Online, promotes improvement in the quality of courses by encouraging best practices, supports faculty, and fosters innovation, with the focus on supporting student success. In addition, Blackboard Support provides assistance with related technologies, such as Turnitin. DOES Online Education Instructional Design staff is here to provide options for faculty to achieve excellence in online teaching and learning, and to help you as you design and teach an online course.

Upon successful completion of the workshop, faculty can save a certificate of completion for submission to their departments. To enroll into DOES Blackboard Basics, log into Blackboard, locate the Organization Search module on the Home tab, and then search for “DOES Blackboard Basics” (without the quotation marks).
