As a member of the History Department since 1971, Professor Faber has been instrumental in bringing American history to the student body of John Jay in a lucid, enlightening manner. He is the author of many studies and articles investigating Jewish history in America. Professor Faber is the author of A Time for Planting: The First Migration, 1654-1820, which is the first volume of The Jewish People in America, published by Johns Hopkins University Press.

His most recent work is titled: Jews, Slaves, and the Slave Trade: Setting the Record Straight, published by New York University Press. For six years he served as editor of the journal, American Jewish History, the oldest journal in the country devoted to the study of ethnicity. Professor Faber has also taught American history as a member of the History Department of the Graduate School and University Center of The City University of New York.
