Areas of Expertise: African cultural retentions in transatlantic communities focusing on financial accumulations; and global migration related to gold, diamond, and bauxite mining.
 

Dr. Josiah is an Assistant Professor of History and specializes in the history of the African Diaspora. She teaches the History of World Civilization. Dr. Josiah was educated at John Jay College and graduated in 1990 with a BA in government. She earned a master’s degree in United States history in 1992 and a PhD in Latin American and Caribbean history in 1998 from Howard University, Washington, DC. Professor Josiah has presented papers to local, national, and international audiences on topics from Africans, African Americans, Afro-Latinos, and Caribbeans in the Navy during the United States Civil War to organizing by Howard University graduates in the African Diaspora. Her specific areas of research include African cultural retentions in transatlantic communities focusing on financial accumulations as well as global migration related to gold, diamond, and bauxite mining.
