Allison Kavey is an assistant professor in the History Department at John Jay College of Criminal Justice (CUNY). She received her PhD in 2004 from the Department of the History of Science, Medicine, and Technology at The Johns Hopkins University. She is the author of Books of Secrets: Popular Natural Philosophy in England, 1550-1600, “Mercury Falling: Gender Malleability and Sexual Fluidity in Popular Alchemical Texts,” and “Mercury Falling: Gender Malleability and Eroticism in Popular Alchemy.” She is also the co-editor with Lester Friedman of Second Star to the Right: Peter Pan in the Popular Imagination.

She is currently working on a book about the longevity and centrality of constructions of passion, imagination, and knowledge in Heinrich Cornelius Agrippa von Nettesheim's Three Books of Occult Philosophy and Renaissance natural philosophy. Her academic interests include the early modern history of natural philosophy, gender, and sexuality. She teaches in History, Justice Studies, and Gender Studies. |
