Julius Caranda ('11, MPA'18)

Professor Julius Caranda (’11, MPA ’18) is a partner of Uplift Communities, Senior Compliance Associate at New York City Council, and an adjunct professor at BMCC. He has worked in banking, public policy, and cyber security. Professor Caranda has previously held positions as an Anti-Money Laundering Investigator at Standard Chartered Bank, KYC Analyst at HSBC Private Bank, an Investigator at CACI International Inc, Associate Investigator at USIS and Business Analyst at JPMorgan Chase. Prior to Uplift Communities, Julius gave back by speaking to students and mentoring.

Judge Marisol Martinez-Alonso ('97)

Judge Marisol Martinez-Alonso graduated, cum laude, with a Bachelor of Science in Criminal Justice (’97). She began her legal pursuits at New York Law School, where she was on the executive board of the moot court association. While in law school, she worked as a law clerk for the boutique criminal law practice, Schuman, Abramson, Morak & Wolk.

After law school, Judge Martinez-Alonso accepted a position as an Assistant District Attorney with the Bronx County District Attorney’s Office. During her seventeen-year tenure with the Bronx DA, Judge Martinez-Alonso, served as a trial assistant, a Criminal Court Supervisor, and a Deputy Bureau Chief. She handled cases including vehicular crimes, narcotics, violent felony offenses and homicides.

In 2018, Judge Martinez-Alonso was appointed to the Criminal Court of the City of New York by Mayor Bill DeBlasio.
