Under Section
504 of the Federal Rehabilitation Act of 1973 and the Americans with Disabilities
Act of 1990, John Jay College has a responsibility to ensure that students
with disabilities have equal access to its programs and services, and
that the students are not discriminated against because of a disability.
The mission of the Accessibility Program for Students with Disabilities is to ensure that all students with disabilities have equal access to the physical facilities and educational programs at John Jay College. The Accessibility Program provides support services and counseling for students who are physically challenged, have learning disabilities and/or have medical conditions which affect their performance in the learning environment.

The College
has a legal mandate and a moral commitment to provide special accommodations
and services designed to help each student realize his/her academic potential.
A wide range of support services are available including: individual counseling,
priority registration, support groups, readers, tutors, sign language
interpreters, flexible test administration, note takers, adaptive equipment,
etc. In addition, the office serves as a liaison and resource to members
of the John Jay College community regarding disability issues.
