Minor in Puerto Rican/ Latin American Studies
This multi-disciplinary minor and program includes courses in the areas of history, culture, law, psychology, sociology, politics and literature relating to the experience of Puerto Rican/Latinas/os in the United States and of Latin Americans in the Caribbean and Latin America. Puerto Rican/Latin American Studies Honors Minor
This minor seeks to encourage and assist students enrolled to excel in all their courses by providing research and writing skills workshops as well as workshops about graduate and law school studies. Coursework is centered on Latin America and the Caribbean, Latinas/os in the United States as well as race and ethnicity generally in the United States. Summer Pre-law Program
In collaboration with St. John’s University Law School, this program helps students from under-represented groups and/or low income or first-generation college students prepare for careers in law.

Historical Memory Project
The Historical Memory Project exposes past and present injustices committed against indigenous peoples in Latin America through scholarly publications, colloquia, and exhibits.

Street Organization Project
The Street Organization Project is a research project that examines the dynamics of group affiliation, including “street gangs” in partnership with John Jay‘s Sociology Department.

Palenque
Palenque is a culturally-based, arts, and education program, serving Latina/o youths and families in Washington Heights, NYC. It focuses on the urban realities of youths and promotes Latina/o cultural identity and development.

Faculty Resources for Teaching Non-Native English Speaking Students at John Jay College
