Carolina Gonzalez is an Instructor in the Department of Latin American and Latina/o Studies. She teaches classes on race and ethnicity, the Latino/a experience, and literature. She received a MA in comparative literature from University of California at Berkeley, and is completing a doctoral dissertation on race and nationalism in Dominican literature of the Trujillo era. She received a BA in comparative literature from Columbia University’s Columbia College in 1987, as part of the first class of women admitted to the school. Her areas of research are: Caribbean literature in Spanish, English, and French; Latin American Women’s Literature; U.S. Latino/a literature and performance; and Afro-diasporic literature.
