Hung-En Sung was appointed associate professor at John Jay in 2006. Before that he served as a research associate for five years in the Division of Policy Research and Analysis at the National Center on Addiction and Substance Abuse at Columbia University and another five years in his first research post at the Kings County (Brooklyn) District Attorney’s Office. In the area of substance abuse policy Professor Sung’s current work focuses on the diversion and treatment of chronic offenders with co-occurring disorders and the role of faith-based treatment in American society. His comparative research has revolved around the impact of democratization on political corruption and the administration of criminal justice. He has published extensively on these issues. Professor Sung has been invited to share his work in Asia, Latin America, and the United Nations. In recognition of his productivity and contributions, John Jay conferred Professor Sung the Faculty Scholarly Excellence Award in 2007.
