The faculty of the Department of Mathematics and Computer Science offer students outstanding academic programs at both the undergraduate and graduate level. The department’s wide array of foundational and specialized courses are designed not only to give students the mathematics courses needed to meet various degree requirements, but also offers advanced courses for those interested in graduate study and entry into professions that rely on mathematics and computing. The Master of Science in Forensic Computing, the first in the country, is a unique course of study that takes full advantage of the depth of John Jay’s graduate faculty and curriculum both in criminal justice and computer science. The Department also offers a Bachelor of Science in Computer Information Systems in Criminal Justice and Public Administration where students learn computer science, operations research and mathematics along with a specialization in either criminal justice or public administration. To complement other majors offered by the College, the Department offers minors in Mathematics and Computer Science. The Department is also home to the College’s Center for Cyber Crime Studies, which is actively engaged in the development and dissemination of information on the latest methods and expertise available to combat this fast growing and increasingly serious crime.
