Spiridon Bakiras received his BS degree (1993) in Electrical and Computer Engineering from the National Technical University of Athens, his MS degree (1994) in Telematics from the University of Surrey, and his PhD degree (2000) in Electrical Engineering from the University of Southern California. Currently, he is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Mathematics and Computer Science at John Jay College, CUNY. Before that, he held teaching and research positions at the University of Hong Kong and the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology. His research interests include high-speed networks, peer-to-peer systems, mobile computing, and spatial databases. He is a member of the Association for Computing Machinery (ACM) and the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE).
