Admissions Requirements
- A bachelor’s degree from an accredited post-secondary institution or international equivalent with a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher.
- 24 undergraduate credit hours of social sciences, 12 of which are in Psychology, plus Experimental Psychology or Research Methods and/or Statistical Methods.
- A minimum General GRE combined score of 297. The Psychology Subject GRE is not required. The General GRE requirement is currently waived for the current application cycle.
- Three academic letters of recommendations (can be completed within the application)
- Personal statement highlighting interest, career goals, and intended field of research
Applicants who meet the admission requirements except for the courses in Statistics or Research Methods/ Experimental Psychology or three credits in psychology may be accepted on the condition that these undergraduate requirements are completed prior to beginning the program or in within the first semester of the program.
Important Admission Information
Personal Statement
If applicable, please provide any relevant clinical experience and any research you were involved with during your previous academic experience. Please also state your reasons for attending the program and your interests in the forensic field, along with what populations you are interested in working with. The personal statement should be approximately 500 words (1 to 2 pages) outlining the above, and how your goals can be achieved through graduate study at John Jay College.
If you are not familiar with the forensic focus, please read the program website carefully.
Please Note: Completion of any advanced certificate or other MA program at John Jay College of Criminal Justice does not guarantee entry into the Forensic Psychology MA program. Acceptance requires a strong application.
