Welcome to the Office of Institutional Research (OIR).

OIR operates to serve both internal and external audiences by supporting institutional planning efforts, informing policy, and supporting data-driven decision making.

OIR typically receives and processes over 100 information requests on an annual basis. In addition, staff are available to consult on study design, methods, implementation and analyses for projects including program evaluations, accreditation, and self-study.

OIR Mission Stmt and Goals

The mission of institutional research is to support institutional planning efforts and to inform policy formation and decision making.  Specific activities undertaken by OIR include, but are not limited to, responding to questions on institutional and student performance; conducting surveys to understand and assess the attitudes of faculty, students, and staff members in-house and in collaboration with other stakeholders; filing compliance reports with various agencies and publications; and regularly disseminating information about the College.  Typically administered are normed surveys such as the National Survey of Student Engagement (NSSE), the Collaborative on Academic Careers in Higher Education (COACHE), the Admitted Students Questionnaire (ASQ).  OIR works closely with the CUNY Office of Institutional Research and Assessment in order to ensure the accuracy and accessibility of the information.

Further, to support a culture of assessment and continuous improvement, OIR educates the College community about the uses of data and information by maintaining an annotated, public inventory of information sources and by working with other offices to define information needs.
