Be sure to arrive by the program start date. Once you have received your I-20, please make note of the “program start date.” This is the date you are required to report to John Jay College. According to USCIS, an F-1 student may be admitted for a period up to 30 days before the indicated report date or program start date listed on the Form I-20. Students that arrive after their program start date might be denied entry at the Port of Entry. Please ensure that your passport is stamped with the correct immigration and status and that the end date is D/S (duration of status). The Form I-94 is an electronic arrival/departure record and can be obtained at http://www.cbp.gov/I94.
Once you have arrived in the U.S., make an appointment to meet with the DSO with 10 days of arrival. Please bring your passport with your F-1 Student Visa, I-94 (download and print the Form I-94 here), and your I-20 so we can make a copy for our records. Please call or email for an appointment:
