Schools seeking to participate in College Now courses should take into account the programmatic requirements of participation. All courses – whether high school credit or college-credit bearing – meet during the after school hours or Saturday mornings.
COHORT courses meet either twice each week from 4:30PM to 6:45PM or Saturdays from 10:00AM to 2:30PM.
WAIVER courses generally meet twice each week for 1 hour and 15 minutes. Specific days and times are determined based on college scheduling and individual student needs.
Each participating school must assign a lead teacher (or counselor) who will serve as your school’s College Now liaison. The liaison serves as your school’s on-site program administrator and is responsible for all administrative tasks (i.e. student registration, programming, attendance monitoring, meet with College Now staff twice per semester.) associated with the program. Additionally, liaisons are expected to attend all program meetings (2-3 per semester). Liaisons are expected to dedicate significant time and effort to the program and in recognition of the important contribution these staff members to the success of the program at your site, liaisons are awarded an annual stipend by the College Now Program.
Student Academic Skill Levels
John Jay’s College Now program is designed to meet the diverse academic needs and interests of high school students. While admission requirements vary depending on the type of course (i.e. high school or college) students participating in college-credit courses (waiver and cohort) must obtain skills certification. In addition, students are required to make a serious commitment to attend classes and complete their assignments.
