Elvin Montgomery is a clinical psychologist who has a strong interest in organizational psychology, community mental health and educational achievement. He teaches cognitive and other types of psychology at John Jay College of the City University of New York. He is an applied behavioral scientist and management consultant who has helped organizations with organizational change, strategic planning and human resource issues for several decades. He has counseled graduate and college students on increasing academic performance and overcoming obstacles to academic achievement. He also facilitates management, board and staff retreats as well as strategic planning sessions. In the educational field he provides dissertation coaching, overcoming testing barriers and social science research assistance to college and graduate students.
Dr. Montgomery is a 1968 graduate of Harvard College and holds a Ph.D., M.Phil. and an M.S. (all in Psychology) from Columbia University. He has worked in both the public and private sectors and has been consulting to organizations since 1970. His training-related work has included managing a training department, conducting training needs assessments and developing customized training packages to solve special organizational problems. His research work has included organizational climate, employee opinion, program evaluation, feasibility and planning studies. He also develops major business and management documents for clients (plans, proposals, reports and manuals) and has experience in marketing.
A long time interest in history has resulted in him being a collector and certified appraiser of historical materials (vintage and collectible books, historical documents, photographs and artifacts). He has written several books related to collecting and collection management and is a member of the board of directors of the Appraisers Association of America.
