Richard Culp, Associate Professor of Public Administration, also serves a member of the doctoral faculty in criminal justice at the Graduate Center of the City University of New York. He received a PhD in criminal justice from the City University of New York, an MA in sociology from Ohio University, and a BA in political science from the Ohio State University. His teaching includes courses in criminal justice policy and administration, research methods, and the administration of public-private partnerships. In 2003, he served as Visiting Professor at the Police Staff College, Bramshill, UK. Current areas of research include sentencing reform, the development of criminal justice institutions in post-conflict societies, the management of public-private partnerships in criminal justice, competition and contract monitoring in the private prison industry, and social structural influences on national incarceration rates. Professor Culp’s research on prison escapes is widely cited as the most comprehensive and up-to-date information available. His work in the area of prison privatization includes consultation services to public agencies that are considering correctional privatization. Professor Culp’s most recent publications have appeared in the Journal of Contemporary Criminal Justice, Criminal Justice Policy Review, The Prison Journal, and the Journal of Public Affairs Education.
