Fall 2019 First Year Student Showcase Workshops

Workshop 1: How to Plan a Poster (Writing Center)
This workshop will introduce students to the purpose and process of a poster presentation. With a particular emphasis on the differences between a research paper and a poster, students will have an opportunity to think conceptually about how to use the components of a research paper toward creating a poster. Students will learn strategies for planning and time management as well as recommendations for poster organization and layout.

Workshop 2: How to Create an Outstanding Poster (SASP)
In this hands-on workshop, students will be introduced to the essential elements of the research poster layout. With a specific focus on creating and formatting content, students will be able to identify the elements of an outstanding poster and be prepared to incorporate these into their own work.
Dates: Tuesdays and Wednesdays, October 22-November 13 (new availability is added each week)

Workshop 3: How to Present Your Poster (Writing Center)
This workshop will discuss strategies to help students present their poster confidently and professionally. Students will learn how to prepare and practice for the oral aspect of the Showcase, including professional presence (e.g. attire, body language), audience awareness, and how to anticipate and respond to questions.
