Poster Preparation Workshops

Workshop 1: How to Plan a Poster
This workshop will introduce students to the purpose and process of a poster presentation. With a particular emphasis on the differences between a research paper and a poster, students will have an opportunity to think conceptually about how to use the components of a research paper toward creating a poster. Students will learn strategies for planning and time management as well as recommendations for poster organization and layout.

Workshop 2: How to Design Your Poster in PowerPoint
In this hands-on workshop, students will be introduced to the basics of PowerPoint as well as how to use PowerPoint to create a poster. With a specific focus on creating and formatting content, this workshop will benefit students who are less familiar with PowerPoint as well as those who want a to begin creating their poster.

Workshop 3: How to Present Your Poster
This workshop will discuss strategies to help students present their poster confidently and professionally. Students will learn how to prepare and practice for the oral aspect of the Showcase, including professional presence (e.g. attire, body language), audience awareness, and how to anticipate and respond to questions.

In-Class Workshop Presentations: Faculty can also schedule the How to Plan a Poster and How to Present Your Poster workshops for in-class presentations. Please call the Writing Center at 212-237-8569. Availability is limited. One-month advance notice is preferred.

Peer Mentors: Peer mentors have received training regarding poster planning and presenting. They are available to meet with students during all stages of the process. Students should contact Nancy Yang at nyang@jjay.cuny.edu to schedule a session.
