FELLOWSHIP SUMMARY

The Social Media and Outreach Fellowship will provide an undergraduate student with practical, hands-on experience in outreach and communications that tend to the needs of immigrants, asyle, refugees, TPS, undocumented, and students in mixed-status families. Under the general supervision of the Immigrant Student Success Interim Specialist, this individual will be responsible for creating educational, social, and advocacy-focused outreach materials and strategize creative ways to engage students remotely.

FELLOWSHIP DUTIES

  • Responsible for our weekly newsletter to promote the Center’s events, scholarships, jobs, and fellowship opportunities. 
  • Develop, implement, and manage the Center’s social media outlets.
  • Create graphics to promote events, information related to immigration, and graphics of interest to undocumented students.
  • Responsible for planning and developing marketing strategies.
  • Responsible for conducting outreach to students, faculty, and staff for our upcoming events and help distribute information.
  • Responsible for sending reminder emails and appropriate information to students in our listservs. 
  • Responsible for managing John Jay Immigrant Student Success Center email and respond to students’ general questions.
  • Responsible for adding content to the ImSSC website.

WHAT YOU WILL LEARN

During the fellowship, you’ll gain a wide array of skills needed to advance the mission of the Immigrant Student Success Center, including everything from direct outreach, to creating content for social media, and advocacy. You can also expect to attend a variety of virtual workshops, talks, and other events that will help you expand your professional network, and advocacy skills. 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Will be enrolled at John Jay for the Fall 2021 semester
Must have personal or professional experience working with immigrant communities
Must be available 15 hours a week, and for bi-weekly team meetings. Date TBD. 
Must be available for the duration of the fellowship (August 2nd - December 2021)
Social Media experience preferred but not required

COMPENSATION
$5,000 from August 2nd - December 21st, 2021
