Richard Lovely arrived at John Jay in 1985. He earned his Ph.D. at Yale University and a B.A. from the University of Southern Florida. His primary areas of interest are cyber-crime, deviance and social control, organizational responses to technology, leadership and group dynamics, and computer applications in research. In the field of criminal justice, he has done research on search and seizure law, causes of serious violence, and organizational innovation. His current research concerns cyber-crime, geographical solutions to stigma, and educational outcomes assessment. Currently he teaches seminars in criminology and data analysis.
