Jock is the Distinguished Professor of Sociology and Criminal Justice. Professor Young earned his B.Sc., M.Sc. and Ph.D. from the London School of Economics, and is best known as the coauthor of the pioneering book, The New Criminology, published in 1973 that founded a new school of thought about the subject of crime. Another book, The Drugtakers, is a classic study of drug policy and drug behavior. His recent book, The Exclusive Society, which has been hailed as a “tour de force of breathtaking erudition and clarity,” offers a withering critique of social exclusion in contemporary society. In March 2007, Sage published his recent book Vertigo in Late Modernity. His academic credentials include a long tenure at Middlesex University in England, where he was head of The Centre for Criminology. In 2003, Professor Young was honored with the Lifetime Achievement Award from the American Society of Criminology’s Division of Critical Criminology.
