The NYPD Leadership Program is an educational opportunity for active NYPD Uniform Members of the Service (UMOS) police officers and supervisors.  The program is ideal for officers and supervisors interested in earning a bachelor's or master's degree.  Students enrolled in the program will have their tuition and textbook costs waived for four college courses (12 credits total).  
 
PROGRAM BENEFITS
  • Guaranteed admission to John Jay College as an undergraduate or graduate non-degree student 
  • Tuition and textbook costs for are covered for four classes (12 credits total)
  • Undergraduate students may receive up to 90 credits from a previous college, including up to 29 credits for NYPD recruitment training 
  • Receive a Certificate of Completion after completing the program
  • Apply credits earned in the NYPD Leadership Program toward a bachelor's or master's degree program at John Jay College (click here for additional information)
  • Police officer rankings are eligible for an additional tuition waiver when registering for a course outside of the NYPD Leadership Program 

PROGRAM DESIGN

The Program courses meet once a week on Fridays at John Jay College.  Courses are offered during morning, afternoon and evening times in the fall and spring semesters.  Students may register for up to two courses per semester.  Click here to review the course curriculum.
 

The program is taught by academics and practitioners with extensive experience and research in law enforcement, race and ethnic diversity, police community relations and issues relating to crime and justice.

ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS

All active NYPD UMOS police officers and supervisors of any ranking are eligible for the NYPD Leadership Program. 

Important Note:  Due to limited funding, we are no longer accepting applications for the NYPD Leadership Program for the Spring 2018 semester.  The funding will be available for the Fall 2018 semester. 
 
Undergraduate students may continue to apply  for the Spring 2018 semester and register for courses outside of the NYPD Leadership Program.  Undergraduate students enrolling for the Spring 2018 semester, may refer to the Tuition Discounts & Academic Benefits page to learn more about tuition discounts. 
 
Graduate students may enroll in a graduate degree program and register for courses outside of the Leadership Program.  Graduate students enrolling in a graduate degree program, may refer to www.jjay.cuny.edu/graduate to learn more about the graduate programs and application deadlines.  Students pursuing a graduate degree program, are strongly encouraged to click here to learn more about applying the NYPD Leadership Program courses to a graduate degree program.  Police Officer rankings enrolled in a graduate degree program may be eligible for a one-time course tuition waiver (click here to learn more).
