Student Civil Rights & Civil Libeties
This summer, we’ve experienced so much that implicate our rights: Our right to free speech and to protest; our rights not to be discriminated against or harassed, by the police or those with whom we disagree. Also, we’ve witnessed a lot of legal changes in the news: new Title IX regulations by the Trump Administration, and the DACA and LGBTQ rights rulings by the U.S. Supreme Court. In this session, John Jay's Office of Compliance & Diversity experts Gabriela Leal and Robert Kim will lead a fun and interactive session covering all these topics. Participants will learn more about their civil rights and civil liberties protections generally as well as how John Jay protects students’ rights. Participants will also have a chance to interact with each other and ask questions to explore how John Jay can foster greater equity, respect and inclusion for all students regardless of their identities, backgrounds, or viewpoints.
Facilitators: Robert Kim, Senior Title IX/EEO Investigator & Gabriela Leal, Interim Director, Compliance and Diversity
