After serving nine years with the U.S. Navy, primarily as a nuclear submarine officer, Professor Sermier spent 15 years in the U.S. Department of Health, Education, and Welfare primarily as the Department’s Chief Information Officer while also directing all departmental efforts to: 1) address the annual findings of the Department’s Inspector General; and, 2) apply management planning and control systems, management analysis, and project management concepts towards the achievement of departmental goals. He subsequently worked for two years as Chief Operating Officer of New York City’s Human Resources Administration and, for 15 years, was the Chief Financial Officer at John Jay College. He has been teaching in the College’s Master of Public Administration program since 1990 with more than 75 courses taught voluntarily. Since 2001 he has also served as the MPA Program Administrator and Student Advisor.
