What is the Faculty-Student Engagement Program (FSE)?

The Faculty-Student Engagement Program (FSE) is comprised of the following initiatives: Faculty-Student Engagement Fund and Dine with your Professor.

The Faculty Student Engagement Fund initiative will reimburse faculty members who host students at activities and events outside of the classroom. All members of the faculty, full time or adjunct, may be reimbursed for up to $250 per semester. Faculty must have a minimum of 10 students participating in an event. A faculty member may only be awarded funding once per semester. Only two faculty members will be awarded funding for the same event.

The Dine with your Professor initiative gives faculty members the opportunity to take their students to lunch at the Faculty & Staff Dining room. The Faculty & Staff Dining Room is open between the hours of 11:00 am - 3:00 pm and is located in room 2.61 of the New Building. In order to participate, faculty should submit a Dine with your Professor application. If approved, you will receive an email confirming your reservation date and time. There is a limit of 10 students per visit, per semester.

The Faculty-Student Engagement Program is paid for by the Student Activity Fee.

Who is eligible for funding?

All members of the faculty, full time or adjunct.

What is the maximum amount of funding I can receive from the Faculty-Student Engagement Program?

A faculty member may only be awarded funding ($250.00 maximum) once per semester. A maximum of two faculty members will be awarded funding for the same event (each award with a maximum of $250.00)

How is funding dispersed?

Faculty are reimbursed in the form of a check for out of pocket expenses.  Faculty cannot be advanced funds for approved activities and must submit reimbursement paperwork upon completion of activity. Please review the Faculty-Student Engagement Program procedures for more information.  

Can I have multiple events supported by the Faculty-Student Engagement Program?

Faculty members are not permitted to submit an application for the Faculty-Student Engagement Fund & Dine with your Professor within the same academic semester. All Applications must be submitted by the Faculty-Student Engagement Program designated deadline. Failure to comply will result in a rejected application. 

Does the Faculty-Student Engagement Program support events in the summer?

Currently, the Faculty-Student Engagement Program  does not support events in the summer.  

What type of events are eligible for the Faculty-Student Engagement Program?

Please note that faculty are not limited to the types of events listed below.

  • Discounted Tickets to Broadway Shows
  • 20 museum admissions (at suggested donation amount)
  • Transportation to a free activity (cover the cost of metro cards)
  • Entry to lecture/workshop/seminar off campus
  • Guest speakers/lecturers to come to John Jay
  • Off campus dining with students at a restaurant
