General Education Student Rights and Appeals

General Education Student Rights and Appeals

After you receive your transfer credit evaluation, you may have questions or concerns about how your transfer credits will meet CUNY general education requirements, degree program, and elective requirements.
To address your questions or concerns, complete these steps in the order they appear:

1.  Make an appointment with an academic advisor to review your transfer credit evaluation as early in the transition process as is possible. An advisor can help you identify courses that were not evaluated, or that may not have been accurately applied to your degree program at John Jay College and support you in obtaining a new transfer credit evaluation or course substitution.

2. If you are not able to address your concerns with an academic advisor, you can initiate the transfer credit appeals process through the John Jay College Transfer Appeals Officer,  Wynne Ferdinand, (wferdinand@jjay.cuny.edu).

3. If you do not receive a written response to your appeal at John Jay College within 15 business days, or if you wish to appeal from a negative determination on your campus appeal, you may appeal the decision to the CUNY University Provost/ Office of Academic Affairs. Visit CUNY’s Pathways Site to learn more about students’ rights, responsibilities and the appeals process.
